Uzwelo Rural Orphan Care Project

Uzwelo home launched the UZWELO RURAL ORPHAN CARE project in conjunction with a number of other stakeholders In December 2007. The original motivation for this project was the looming AIDS/HIV epidemic at the point in time and the potential impact it would have on children. The purpose of the project was to care for children affected and infected by HIV/ AIDS. The children receive services aimed at empowering them and developing their skills in the family situation. They have a soup kitchen at Iswepe, Ngwempisi, Mdukuzane, Taaiboschspruit, Panbult and other areas around Mkhondo.

The project applied for funding from the Vumbuka Trust in 2019 for cooking utensils/equipment for the project. The trustees approved R15 000 for the cooking utensils for the orphan care project. The project currently helps to feed over 440 kids from all around the Mkhondo rural areas.

Mabola Elderly Club

“To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honours.” ― Tia Walker. Mabola Elderly club was established to cater for the needs of the elderly in Dirkiesdorp area. The organisation applied for support form Vumbuka Trust in 2019 in order to fix the decaying structure of the club. The club received the support of R30 000 to buy material to paint, fix roofing and other structural repairs on the building. The club keeps the elderly social, mentally engaged and help them feel less isolated. Seniors who stay engaged with others have higher levels of immune-system functionality, which prevents chronic stress and depression that can weaken their immune systems. The club hosts fitness activities for their physical exercise and different social activities. Vumbuka Trust making, difference together.

Weeber Primary School

Weeber Primary School received the support of R30 000 from Vumbuka Trust 2019. The School was established by The Lutheran Church in the 1970s and the infrastructure of the building and fencing has decayed over the years. The School is located on the Lunenburg road and there’s traffic in the area. The School has experienced incidents of learners walking on the roads unsupervised and have incidents of schoolkids bunking school.

The principle applied to Vumbuka Trust for support to buy the fencing equipment required to replaced and repair the fencing. The trustees approved support to the value of R30 000 to buy all the needed fencing material. It is the school’s responsibility to erect and repair the fencing. The trust believes that the high-quality infrastructure facilitates better instruction, improves student outcomes, and reduces dropout rates, among other benefits. Through the support, the School learners, teachers and property has been protected from outside theft and vandalism that was happening in the area. Vumbuka Trust making, difference together.

Mpumelelo Youth Centre

Mpumelelo Youth Development Centre is a non-profit organization (NPO) that was established in 2011 at Kwa-Ngema Trust. The Centre supports youth to develop their physical, social and educational training skills. The project is registered under the Department of Social Development in Piet Retief. The computers in the centre are used by school learners, job seekers and many other community people for research purposes. The centre had over 4 desktop computers that were no longer functioning for some years. Majority of the youth in Kwa-Ngema use the centre to apply to Tertiary institutions for higher learning. The Schools in the rural area don’t all have computer labs for such activities.

The organisation requested support from Vumbuka Trust to buy laptops for the centre and were approved for support to the value of R20 000 in the way of computer equipment. The laptops help to assist the learners and youth of Kwa-Ngema Trust. The Vumbuka Trust supports initiatives that promote education among the upcoming generation which will aid the youth of today to reach their academic goals. It further supports the centres aims to keep the youth away from the streets, taking drugs and alcohol abuse in order to create a better future among young people.

Mkhondo Rehabilitation Centre

Mkhondo rehabilitation centre is SANCA registered centre, that helps substance addicts around Mkhondo. The centre has an out-patient and impatient facility that assist assessment and screening addiction treatment. The organisation started the Mpumalanga Addiction Rehabilitation Centre-Substance abuse prevention programme. The programme visits schools throughout Mkhondo teaching young kids about substance abuse prevention methods. Its aim is to educate children in the rights and the different forms of abuse and how they can get help if they get violated or abused

Mpumalanga addiction rehabilitation centre applied for support from Vumbuka Trust 2018. The organisation has been operating for over 10+ years. They requested support for laptops and projectors for their prevention programme. Vumbuka Trust supported the organisation with 5 laptops  for the peer educators are able to do the awareness  presentations at schools properly and formally.

Ndlela High school

Vumbuka Trust supported Ndlela High school with school blazers for their choral school choir. The school was established 38 years back in Thandukhanya location and has educated many local entrepreneurs and professionals in the community over the years. The school has musical subjects in their curriculum from Grade 10-12.  The school choir has produced famous musicians such as Pretty Yende. The choir conductor Mr. Mathibela applied for support wanting formal choir uniform for 60 children for the choir.

Vumbuka Trust Social Development Project-Ndawonye Primary School

Nelson Mandela once stated that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. On 31st of January 2019 Vumbuka Trust had an official hand-over of combination desks at Ndawonye Primary School.  The school was established in 1992 and is currently under Mrs MR Magagula as the principal. The school has over 850+ students from Thandukukhanya Community. The school has been having severe problems with classroom furniture for the past 10 years. The majority of chairs and tables were broken down and some kids were even sitting on paint buckets.

The School deputy principal at the time applied for furniture funding for two consecutive years from Vumbuka Trust and they were approved R30 000 in 2017 and R40 000 for 2018 to buy furniture totalling R70 000. The school bought 60 double combination desks for Grade 1-2 learners.  As part of the social development programme Vumbuka Trust aims at uplifting, developing and supporting educational programmes and schools at Mkhondo as well as areas that the TWK Group operates in.–Vumbuka Trust, let’s make a difference, together.

Vumbuka Trust Hosted the 5th Annual Soccer challenge

The Vumbuka Trust hosted its 5th annual Vumbuka Trust Cup from 22 July 2017-03 September 2017. The final took place at Magudulela stadium in Thandukhanya Location. The stadium was packed with young people from Mkhondo. The Mkhondo Local Football Association was sponsored by the Vumbuka Trust to organise the soccer tournament. The tournament had various categories from ladies’ soccer, under 13, under 15, under 17 and the senior Mkhondo Teams.

The Vumbuka Trust invited some of its 2017 beneficiaries to attend the Soccer final such as Mkhondo Peer educators that came with health awareness products to distribute to the youth of Mkhondo. Other beneficiaries were Sibongokuhle Creative Minds and Amathol’ Amnyama Cultural group which opened the final game with a cultural dance. The Mkhondo LFA had exciting competitions for the fans, they gave away t-shirts and sports bottles as prizes. Vumbuka Trust aims to uplift the sports activities for the youth of Mkhondo- Vumbuka Trust let’s make a difference, together.

Amandlelo-Aluhlaza-Secondary-School-1-10

Amandlelo Aluhlaza Secondary School

According to Robert Ingersoll” We rise by lifting others.” On 29th September 2017 the TWK Enterprise Development staff went to do a hand-over of a soccer kit and equipment at the Amandlelo Aluhlaza Secondary School.  As part of Vumbuka Trust objective to develop and support sports activities, the trustees approved the School R10 000 to buy a soccer kit and equipment. One of the Trust’s aims are to uplift the community of Mkhondo Municipality.

Amadlelo Aluhlaza Secondary School sports committee applied for Vumbuka Trust 2017 seeking for sponsorship for their sports activities. The school is located at Ethandukhanya Location and was established in 2001 and is currently under Mr. M.C Nkosi as the principal. The trustees saw that the school was in need of new equipment and soccer kit. The school learners and Sports Committee were very grateful for the support they received from Vumbuka Trust.  “Vumbuka Trust, let’s make a difference together.”

Lesedi Day Care

On 25TH August 2017, the Vumbuka Trust trustees went for an official hand over-opening at Lesedi Day Care Centre located in the Mkhondo area. The Day Care applied for support from Vumbuka Trust in 2017 and was approved with an amount of R15 000 to buy and install a Jungle Gym. The Day Care facility has been operating for all most 15 years and is currently being run by Mrs. Thabethe with the help of 9 teachers. The Day Care Centre has over 255 kids and only had very limited outside playing equipment.

The kids were very excited and anxious to play on their new build Jungle gym. Vumbuka Trust strives to improve the lives of the community. Vumbuka Trust – Lets make a difference, together.

TWK Vumbuka Trust Soccer Challenge 2014

The Vumbuka Trust sponsored the TWK Vumbuka Trust Soccer Challenge held in eMkhondo, Mpumalanga, during June 2014.

Vumbuka Trust supports rural healthcare in eMkhondo

The Vumbuka Trust supports the Thol’ulwazi Thol’impilo mobile clinic project by making a contribution to the running cost (fuel and repairs & maintenance) of the vehicles.

The NGO Thol’ulwazi Thol’impilo successfully operates mobile clinics in the Mkhondo Municipality, Mpumalanga and is supported by government and private businesses/donors.

Thol’ulwazi Thol’impilo takes healthcare to the rural areas around Mkhondo and plays a big part in counselling as well as the treatment of HIV/AIDS as well as other medical conditions e.g. diabetes.

Staff from TWK Agri and the Vumbuka Trust visited one of the mobile clinic stops at a TWK Farm (Speenkoppies) near Moolman, Mkhondo on 31 July 2014 for the official handover of the Vumbuka Trust’s contribution for 2013/14.

The visitors were treated with some free maize meal, healthy fresh fruit and free vegetable seedlings courtesy of the Vumbuka Trust.

The difference this project makes in the lives of the rural communities was clearly visible through the appreciation of everyone using this service.

Mandela Day 2014

The Vumbuka Trust supported several qualifying Mandela Day 2014 initiatives in which TWK Agri employees participated. Beneficiaries of the day, all around eMkhondo, Mpumalanga included the Uzwelo Childrens’ Home, Huis Immergroen Old Age Home, Alpha & Omega Primary School, needy Retiefville resident, patients at the eMkhondo Provincial Hospital and others.
